Board Opportunities:

 

Alora Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and public charity; we are happy to report that our bylaws state that members of the Board of Directors don't receive salaries at Alora Farm. This approach guarantees minimal administrative costs and a board of directors dedicated to the organization's cause. We are committed to inclusivity, diversity, and equality and seek to build a team from the community we serve so that an active voice of the mission is at the table. Your participation and recommendations based on your community's experience and vantage point are necessary to Alora's development into an organization to meet the needs of the neurodivergent community.

 

Our Mission

Alora Farm's mission is to provide a nurturing and healing environment to promote wellness for autists and others with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD or DD) and serve as an alternative to the current group home and institutional living models.

Board Member Responsibilities:

The purpose of the Alora Farm Board of Directors is to advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of Alora Farm to support the organization's mission and needs.

  • Board members serve on board committees and actively participate in committee work.

  • Board members are expected to play an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for Alora Farm to achieve its mission.

  • Board members leverage personal relationships and connections to help solicit potential funders and directly invest in Alora Farm's work by making a personal contribution each year. The minimum is currently $25 per month.

  • Board members are expected to represent Alora Farm to their respective communities responsibly and to advocate for Alora Farm's mission, programs, and services as appropriate.

Major responsibilities:*

- Organizational leadership and guidance

- Organization of the board of directors, officers, and committees

- Formulation and oversight of policies and procedures

- Fundraising and outreach

- Financial management, including understanding and oversight of the annual     budget

- Review of organizational and programmatic reports

- Promotion of Alora Farm

*Members of the board share these responsibilities while acting in the organization's interest.

Meetings

The board conducts monthly meetings, and each committee may also meet. In addition to the meeting times, board members should expect to spend an average of 5-10 hours per month on board-related activities, depending on events and current initiatives. Meeting lengths and locations incl. Teleconference vary. Most state bylaws require one annual meeting in person.

Requirements

Alora Farm seeks a diverse group of individuals with varied backgrounds and experience, such as public service, business executives, and/or community leaders who will bring access and experience to the organization.

  1. Candidates can commit to the mission and values of Alora Farm to make a difference in the lives of people and their communities.

  2. Candidates are committed to supporting Alora Farm in making the Board of Directors representative and inclusive of the entire community, including people of varied ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and physical abilities.

  3. Have patience, a sense of humor, and a willingness to learn.

  4. Help in financial support for Alora Farm. This can be achieved through direct donation, hosting fundraising parties, securing matching funds or grants. 

We are currently recruiting for increased diversity on our board. BIPOC, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, and disabled individuals with experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply.

Secretary

The Secretary's responsibilities include:

  • keep the minutes of all meetings of the Board in books provided for this

     purpose

  • attend to the giving and serving of all notices on behalf of the Foundation.

  • take minutes of the meetings of the Board and keep the minutes as part of the corporate records

  • attest to the signature of the officers of the Foundation on all contracts, conveyances,  franchises,  bonds,  deeds,  assignments,  mortgages,  notes, and other instruments of the Foundation

  • keep a register of the mailing address of each director, officer, and employee of the Foundation

  • perform duties as assigned by the Board or president

  • perform all duties incident to the office of secretary

Advocacy Professional

Alora seeks experienced advocacy professionals to plan and implement strategies and campaigns to support an issue or cause. We seek a board member to help cultivate the board's leadership role in advocacy, increase awareness about our mission's importance, influence public policy, and expand our reach.

Director

Advocacy Connection

Alora seeks a well-connected individual who shares a passion for our mission of wellness and dignity to autist teens and adults with IDD or DD. To leverage their networks and resources to support efforts to positively impact the policy environment in which Alora does its work.
